Tragedy struck today as award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman dies at 46 in New York, he was found dead via overdose late Sunday morning in his apartment in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan.

"Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose late Sunday morning in his New York City apartment, a law-enforcement official said.
The New York Police Department is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the exact cause of death. The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46 years old, was found dead at his apartment on Bethune Street in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan."

"A search of the home of Philip Seymour Hoffman home turned up used syringes and approximately 50 bags of heroin, according to law enforcement officials.
Police also found drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Monday."
