Today we bid farewell to the great Harold Ramis, whose legacy includes Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Stripes, Groundhog Day, and Animal House. The actor, writer, director, was found dead in his Chicago-area home this morning.
According to United Talent Agency, who represent him for many years, Ramis had died from complications related to autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a condition he battled for the last four years.
"For more than 40 years, Ramis was a leading figure in comedy. A veteran of the Second City troupe in his hometown of Chicago, he was a writer for "SCTV" and wrote or co-wrote the scripts for "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978), "Caddyshack" (1980), "Stripes" (1981), "Ghostbusters" (1984), "Groundhog Day" (1993) and "Analyze This" (1999)."
Harold Ramis was a comedy legend in his own respect who helped to define an entire generation of comedians, such as Steve Carell who tweeted this, "Harold Ramis. Funny, gracious, kind hearted. A joy to have known you." Carell and Ramis had worked together on The Office, where Ramis Directed a number of episodes.
