Box Office: 300: Rise of an Empire Projected $42 Million Opening Weekend

         The highly anticipated 300 sequel opened to a notable $17.7 million on Friday, plus $3.3 million in late-night Thursday showings, this opening is significantly lower than the 28.1 million its predecessor opened with.

         Mr. Peabody & Sherman landed in second with a mere $8 million, it is estimated to earn around $31.5 million by Monday. In comparison, past Dream Works Animation movies How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods opened to $12.1 million and $11.6 million, respectively.

         The animated adventure, is based on the 1960's cartoon The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show,  where the two had small segments during the shows tenure.

         With a limited release, The Grand Budapest Hotel earned a noteworthy $260,000 domestically, and an estimated $3.1 million world wide.

         The Wes Anderson movie follows the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.

         300 Rise of an Empire comes seven years after 300, which grossed $70.8 million in its opening weekend and earned $456 million worldwide.

         Directed by Noam Murro and based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel, the 300 sequel stars Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green. While Lena Headey and Rodrigo Santoro reprise their roles as the Spartan Queen Gorgo and Xerxes, respectively.
