Recap: The 86th Annual Academy Awards

        With host Ellen DeGeneres and all the stars coming out, the Oscars where an electrifying night to be remembered. This is a simple and straight forward recap of that ceremony.
         "...its not everyday we get to dress up...a night where we can remind ourselves of the work we do all year long..." - Kevin Spacey on the Oscars.

         It all started with with host Ellen DeGeneres, returning after seven years, arriving on stage in a lavish suit with a loose white scarf-bow tie, followed by a retinue of lightheartedness. After the opening monologue, Anne Hathaway came out to present the Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Where Jared Leto took home the golden statue (reminder look to the bottom for the nominee lists).

         Next DeGeneres called Ace Ventura's Jim Carrey to the stage to take a look at some of the animated heroes of cinema in the fun and expressive that only he can. Then the esteemed host announced Kerry Washington to present the first of the nominations for Best Original Song, Pherrel Williams who play 'Happy' from Despicable Me 2.

         Then Samuel L. Jackson and Naomi Watts presented Best Costume Design, where Catherine Martin took home her 3rd Oscar. After that Samuel L. Jackson and Naomi Watts presented Best Hair and Makeup, Adruitha Lee and Robin Mathews won.

         Harrison Ford took the stage next, and presented the first three clips for Best Picture nominees American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and, The Wolf of Wall Street. After that Canning Tatum presented whats called Team Oscar, a group of college students who won a competition to create a short to allow them the chance to be on stage.

         Kim Novak and Mathew McConaughey and presented for Best Animated Short, where Mr. Hublot won. then the two presented Best Animated Feature, Frozen won.

         After that Sally Field showed clips of the heroes of the movies in years past. Then Emma Watson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt presented the award for visual effects, Gravity took home its first nomination. Zach Efron then presented the next performer for Best Original Song Karen O signing The Moon Song from Her.

         Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis presented for best live-action short, the Oscar went to Helium. Then Best Documentary Short, where The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life took home the award.

         The next presenter was Bradley Cooper, for Best Documentary, where 20 Feet from Stardom won with a very lyrical acceptance speech. Kevin Spacey came on stage after that to show clips of some of the humanitarian and honorary Oscar winners of years past.

         Then Ewan McGregor and Viola Davis presented Best Foreign Language Film, The Great Beauty from Italy won. Then Tyler Perry strode on stage to show the 4th, 5th, and 6th nominees for Best Picture,  Nebraska, Her, and Gravity.

         Host Ellen DeGeneres came back out in a new suit and called Brad Pitt to the stage to resent the next Best Original Song nominee U2 with Ordinary Love.

         The next presenters where Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron who presented the award for Best Sound Mixing, Gravity won. Afterwards the award for Best Sound Editing, Garvity won as well.

         Christoph Waltz came to salute the women for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, where Lupita Nyong'o took home the award.

         After that the host brought out pizza and past it around to the various stars. Then Amy Addams and Bill Murray announced the nominees for Best Cinematography, Gravity won its 4th award of the night.

         Next came Best Editing, where Gravity won its 5th and second in a row. Then Whoopi Goldberg celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz, where she then called up P!nk to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

         The Next Presenters where Jennifer Garner and Benedict Cumberbatch, who announced the Best Production Design Category, The Great Gatsby took home the prestigious award. Then Chris Evans took a look at some of cinemas most popular heroes. Afterwards Glenn Close came out to show the 'In Memoriam' presentation.

         Goldie Hawn came out to show the last three clips from the Best Picture Category, Philomena, Captain Phillips, and 12 Years a Slave. After that John Travolta showed the next Best Original Song Let it Go from Frozen by Idina Menzel.

         Jamie Fox and Jessica Beil took to the stage next to present the Best Original Score, where Gravity won again. Then the award for Best Original Song which went to Frozen. This makes song-writer Robert Lopez the 12th person to achieve EGOT, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

         Then Robert De Niro and Penelope Cruz presented the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, 12 years a Slave took it home. Then the award for Best Original Screenplay, which went to Her.

         Then Angelina Jolie and Sidney Poitier, celebrating his 50th anniversary for his Oscar win for Lilies of the Field where he became the first African-American to win, presented Best Director, where Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) won.

         After that last years recipient for Best Actor, Daniel Day Lewis, presented for Best Actress in a Leading Role, where Cate Blanchett won. Then came the Best Actor award, presented by last years Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence, where Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar.

         After that Will Smith walked on stage to present the nine films nominated for Best Picture, where 12 years a Slave took home the prestigious award.

        The night was filled with laughs and surprises, and went off without a hitch. Gravity won an astounding 7 of its 10 nominations, while American Hustle lost every one of their 10 nomination. Dallas Buyers Club won both the coveted Best Actor and Supporting Actor, and 12 Years a Slave waked away with the big one. In all, it was a fantastic night to see.
